Wishing Vessels

Each delicate vessel in this series serves as both a cocoon and a conduit—a space for transformation, intention, and dreams held in fragile suspension. Inspired by the metamorphic journey of the bagworm moth, whose cocoon is woven from the materials of its environment, the first bottle reimagines this concept on a personal level: if I were to construct my own cocoon, it would be woven from the leaves of my journal, each page infused with memory, thought, and emotion. Blown glass forms the container, while translucent layers of pâte de verre paper wrap around it like fossilised whispers—fragments of written reflection turned into a delicate skin of glass. The vessel becomes more than an object; it is a ritual space, an invitation. Viewers were encouraged to inscribe their own wishes for transformation, placing them within, allowing the act of writing to imbue the work with collective energy. Just as a cocoon is both a place of enclosure and emergence, these bottles embody the tension between preservation and change—holding, yet always in the process of becoming. Some pieces in the series were made with incompatible glass for the writing. It is fused to the surface but will eventually crack and pull away, destroying itself over time. A cathartic release.
